Art and Graphic Design Degree Information

Highland Community College main campus offers the following degrees for art and graphic design:  

  • Graphic Design (Associate in Arts): Graphic Design AA is a transfer program for students wanting a career using graphic arts and techniques of visual communication. This curriculum is suggested for those intending to complete an associate in arts degree at HCC and then transfer to another institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Graphic designers might work in advertising, publishing, or corporate settings creating visual designs to enhance a variety of products or messaging. 

  • Graphic Design (Associate in Applied Science): The Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Graphic Design program is for students who want to work in commercial design or visual communication. This curriculum provides a good foundation in art, advertising, graphic arts, photography, and art history for those interested in entering the job market after completing two years of study.  Graphic designers might work in advertising, publishing, or corporate settings creating visual designs to enhance a variety of products or messaging.  

  • Studio Art (Associate in Arts): Studio Art AA is recommended for students interested in a career as an independent studio artist. A strong foundation and interest in all forms of art, design, and photography is recommended. This curriculum is suggested for those intending to complete an associate in arts degree at HCC and then transfer to another institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Art in the Community 

  • Art Day - The competitive exhibition is designed to recognize artistic talent at the senior high level (grades 9-12) within the region. The Art Day experience is an excellent opportunity for students and art educators to view the creative efforts of their contemporaries and colleagues. 
  • Yost Art Gallery 
  • View HCC Student Art (coming soon - if you're a student interested in submitting art to our website, contact the Art Faculty for more information) 
  • HCC Art Club – This club is open to all HCC art and photography students. This student-governed organization plans events and field trips focused on enhancing art education. Members also raise money through various activities, such as selling artwork and projects to help pay for trips. Recent trips include New York, Chicago, and Kansas City. To be a member of this club, a student must be enrolled in at least one studio art class. For more information, contact Brigitte Bruna.
