The Highland Community College (HCC) Viticulture and Enology Program, in collaboration with the Kansas Departments of Agriculture (KDA) and Commerce (KDC), successfully hosted the inaugural Cheers Kansas wine festival May 11 at Wamego’s City Park. The event showcased 14 Kansas wineries and eight local food vendors from KDA’s From the Land of Kansas program, with additional support from the Kansas Agritourism program.
Scott Kohl, HCC Director of Viticulture and Enology, reflected, "It was a perfect day! Great weather, great food, excellent music and wonderful wines. We couldn't have asked for a better event. We can't wait until 2025!"
A total of 468 tickets were sold both online and at the gate, providing attendees with a variety of wine and food samples. Participants also had the opportunity to purchase unopened bottles of wine and various food items to enjoy at home. The festival featured live music on two stages and additional food options from the Jammin’ Jamaican food truck.
Event participants enjoyed ideal weather conditions with clear skies, 80-degrees and a light breeze. Attendees praised the event and expressed enthusiasm for next year’s festival. Both winery representatives and food vendors appreciated their inclusion and expressed interest in returning in 2025.
HCC Viticulture and Enology extends its gratitude to the Kansas Departments of Agriculture and Commerce for their sponsorship and support in making this event a remarkable success. Preparations for the 2025 festival are already under way.
