This course is designed to introduce students to different Health Careers and opportunities. Students will learn a broad set of standards that include the knowledge and skills that the vast majority of health care workers should have.

NUR 103 PN Success (3)

This course provides orientation to the program and promotes student success. Students are introduced to the student role, learning and learning styles, critical thinking, test taking strategies, medical terminology, and wellness and self-care strategies. Supporting content for pharmacology and medication administration includes systems of measurement and dosage calculation. In preparation for patient care students are oriented to academic support services, use of credible resources, priority setting, and clinical reasoning.

Prerequisite: Program Coordinator Approval

This course facilitates the transition of the student to the role of an LPN. Emphasis is placed on issues related to nursing as well as skills necessary to prioritize care for multiple patients and delegate tasks to other LPNs and unlicensed personnel. Concepts related to leadership and management are presented as well as career development options that enhance career mobility. Standards of practice and the importance of practicing according to state regulations and statutes are examined. Active learning exercises provide the student the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts.

This course focuses on application of the nursing process using critical thinking and clinical reasoning in the work environment. Emphasis is placed on legal aspects of the role. Learning and assessment strategies include virtual and live simulation scenarios, case studies, ATI test performance and live NCLEX Review.

Trains Certified Nursing Assistants to acquire an understanding of the responsibilites associated with drug administration and to be aware of drug reference resources and uses of reference resources. Procedures for checking the patients condition and for preparing, giving, and recording medications are included.

Prepares the individual to act in the role of a Social Services Designee in an Adult Care Facility. It identifies the specific responsibilites and functions of the Social Services Designee as a member of the Health Care Team. Utilizing a holistic approach, this course focuses on the residents' psychological, social, and spiritual needs as well as physical needs. Included in this discussion is the role of the family and the caregiver in meeting the residents' needs.

Prerequisite: Program Coordinator Approval

Prepares the individual to act in the role of a certified Home Health aide in a home setting. The course identifies the specific responsibilites and functions of the certified Home Health aide as a member of the health care team. Using a holistic approach, this course focuses on the clients physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. Included is the role of the family and the caregiver in meeting the clients' needs.
