Both Highland Community College cross country teams were in action on Friday evening at the Northwest Missouri Bearcat Open Meet.
The Scottie men finished the meet with 77 total team points, good for third place. Host Northwest Missouri won the meet with 15 team points. Nolan Zimmer of Northwest won the race with a time of 26:03. The Scottie women were in action for the first time this year and ended the meet in fourth place as a team with 89 points. Again, Northwest took the team title with 15 points. Bearcat Anne Herbert won the meet with the time of 23:32.
The Scottie men, ranked third nationally by Hill-N-Dale, were once again paced by freshman Brian Martinez (Pasadena, TX) with a seventh place finish in 27:35. Sophomores Seth Parres (O’Fallon, MO) and Brett Simshauser (Cuba, MO) finished together in 14th and 15th place with the same time of 28:39. Sophomore Chris Babel (Hiawatha) finished in 22nd place while freshman Rey Quinones (Clermont, FL) was the 27th place finisher.
The Scotties are on the road again next Saturday, September 21, at the Woody Greeno Invitational Meet hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
