The Highland Community College Multimedia Department, led by Tanner Holte, the HCC multimedia coordinator, successfully hosted its second annual Film Festival Thursday, Oct. 17. The event brought together students from various area high schools, providing them with the opportunity to submit short films for judging and viewing during the festival.
Holte expressed his gratitude to the schools that attended, stating, "I appreciate the schools who participated in this year’s festival, and we’re already planning for next year’s event. We’re excited to see it grow even more.”
Throughout the day, participants attended several workshop sessions covering topics such as audience engagement, storytelling, streaming on Rainbow Live, social media management and photography. These sessions were designed to provide valuable insight into various aspects of multimedia production.
Following a lunch break, students gathered in Culbertson Auditorium to enjoy popcorn while watching the submitted films. Later in the day, they had the chance to explore HCC's multimedia studio, which features a news corner, teleprompter and green screen. Additional breakout activities included campus tours, a photo challenge and a Q&A session with presenters from the workshops.
The festival culminated in a first-place award presented to Falls City Sacred Heart for their winning film. Holte expressed optimism about the future of the event, saying, "Congratulations to Falls City Sacred Heart, this year’s first place winner. I hope this event continues to strengthen connections with area high schools and contribute to the growth of our program at Highland."
