Former Highland Community College standout Brandon King has won a World Championship.
The 2013 Highland graduate from Alabaster, AL, in just his second NFL season, has reached the pinnacle of American football and won a Super Bowl. He will go down in the history books for being a part of the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. The 6'2”, 220 pound King is in his second year with New England. He is a backup safety and starts on the special teams unit for the Patriots. King racked up 10 tackles in 2016, seven solo and three assisted.
King was signed to the Patriots practice squad in September of 2015. In October of 2015, King was added to the 53-man roster. He recorded 12 tackles and one forced fumble while playing in 13 regular season games and two post season games in the 2015 season. This year, King appeared in all 16 regular season games and three post season games, including Super Bowl 51. King is the first Highland alum to win a Super Bowl.
King played two seasons at Highland Community College from 2011-2012. In his freshman year, King led the team in tackles with 122 in nine games, an average of 13.5 tackles per game. He had six tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble. In his sophomore season, King was second on the team in tackles with 77 in nine games, 8.5 per/game. He recorded five tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and three blocked kicks. King was named 1st Team All-KJCCC in 2012.
After Highland, King transferred to Auburn University and finished out his final two seasons as a linebacker for the Tigers, playing in the 2014 national championship game that Auburn lost to Florida State, 31-34. He majored in Public Administration.
