Academic Scholarships at HCC


Academic Scholarships are available in the amount equal to tuition and book rental up to $2,000 per semester at Highland Community College. These scholarships are not valid for more than 3 online credit hours per semester. 


Scholarship Criteria

Students on scholarship are required to follow the rules in the Student Handbook and requirements outlined below: 

  • Must be a high school graduate (or equivalent)
  • Must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  • Must live in campus housing during their first year attending Highland campus full-time.
    • Exemptions are as follows: married students, students with dependents, students over 21 years of age (Please reach out to our admissions team to discuss further exemptions offered to our service area students.)  
  • Must be enrolled full-time at any Highland campus location. Full-time is defined as 12 credit hours per semester
  • Must complete at least 12 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher each semester
    • NJCAA athletes with an academic scholarship must maintain a 2.8 cumulative GPA or higher while attending Highland Community College. This requirement overrides any other GPA requirement
  • Up to 3 credit hours of online classes are allowed each semester. Beyond 3 online credit hours or enrollment in classes at other Highland locations requires approval from the Vice President for Student Affairs
  • If the scholarship criteria is incomplete, the scholarship can be taken away by the scholarship sponsor. If this happens, the student will not be able to receive a scholarship the following semester
  • To get and keep an academic scholarship, students must also complete the following as defined by their scholarship sponsor (each semester):
    • Enroll in at least one programmatic course
    • Assist in two community outreach events each year
    • Engage in programmatic events, competitions, skill challenges
    • Maintain a "B" (3.0) GPA in all courses taken within the academic area of this scholarship
