Scotties Earn All Conference Honors

The Highland Community College football team placed seven sophomores on the 2011 All-Jayhawk Conference Teams.
Punter Cameron Owens (Topeka) headed all the Scotties as Second Team selection after a solid season. Owens had 51 punts for 1,996 yards, good for a 39.1 yard average.
Earning All-Jayhawk Honorable Mention Honors were interior lineman Venson Jones (Newport News, VA), defensive end Lawrence Cayou (New Orleans, LA), cornerback Colby Brown (Augusta, GA), safety Gatlin Ridgeway (Mt. Vernon, OH), and running back Latavious Willis (Newnan, GA).
Jones had 29 total tackles while Cayou collected 36 total stops, including a team-high four sacks. Brown had 38 tackles, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery in 2011. Ridgeway was the Scotties’ second leading tackler with 89 stops, two and a half sacks, and a team-high three interceptions. Willis ran for 257 yards on 106 carries and three touchdowns.
