The Highland Community College men’s basketball team continued its winning ways with two easy wins this past weekend in the Kansas City Kansas Community College Classic Tournament.
The Scotties, 3-0 overall, defeated On Point Academy on Friday afternoon by the final of 83-69. On Saturday, Highland beat North Arkansas College by the final of 85-58.
Against On Point Academy, the Scotties were paced by sophomore Martell Collins (Milwaukee, WI) with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Jamal LaFond (Mountain Pine, AR) made the most of his first start as a Scottie with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Sophomore Torre’ Somerville (Washington, DC) contributed with 16 points and six assists.
On Saturday, Collins again led the Scotties with 17 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Jeremy Melvin (Onaga) sparked Highland in the second half with four straight three pointers for 12 points. LaFond added 12 points to go along with his five rebounds.
The Scotties next travel to Marshall, MO, on Monday, November 11, for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Missouri Valley College junior varsity squad.
