Last spring, Multi-Media Coordinator Tanner Holte took a group of Highland students to Manhattan to tour K-State’s multimedia facilities.

“The trip to K-State was so enjoyable and sparked new interests and ideas in the team that we weren't sure were possible. Seeing the studios and a live newscast, the Collegian media groups' different paths and the radio station was truly awe-inspiring. We hope to make the trip again in the future and that some of these students will look at what KSU has to offer when it comes time for them to transfer from Highland,” said Holte.

Samuel Pyle (Ellis, Kan.) had this to say after the event, "Overall, the trip was an amazing experience, and I’m so glad I went. It opened my eyes to how many career paths I did not know about before this experience. I am excited to see what Highland Community College Multimedia has to offer in the years to come."

At Highland, students with a multimedia scholarship run video and photo cameras, sound, lighting and streaming. Students also do some editing and graphic design according to their knowledge level. Not only do students get great hands-on experience, the scholarship also helps cover the cost of attending HCC as it covers their tuition and book rental.

Haley Hetrick (Ozawkie, Kan.) said, "The trip to K-State was lots of fun and very educational. I was already thinking about transferring to K-State after Highland, but I was still looking at other options. After this trip, I am definitely going to K-State! My favorite part was definitely touring the Royal Purple [Yearbook] and talking to the professors about their program and how it's all student-driven. I love that any student can join! I also enjoyed the radio station and listening to their podcasts! I cannot wait to transfer to K-State in the fall of 2024!"
