Highland Women Set Records at Track Nationals
The Highland Community College women’s track team finished the season with a bang at the 2016 NJCAA Track and Field National Championships at Levelland, TX, on May 17-19. Both the 4 x 100 Relay and the 4 x 400 Relay set new College records at the meet.
The 4 x 100 Relay with Elicia Gallegos (SO, Rio Ranch, NM), Kyelah Hodges (FR, Monticello, AR), Alison Nutt (FR, Owensville, MO), and Selia Robinson (FR, Kissimmee, FL) ran a 47:71, establishing a new Highland record and placing 11th. The 4 x 400 Relay followed with Gallegos, Hodges, Nutt, and Jasmine Segrest (FR, San Antonio, TX) running a 3:52.43, also setting a new Highland record, and finishing in the top 10 at the National Meet. Others finishers were Hodges -- 12th place 400 meters, Chelsea Gabriel (SO, Grain Valley, MO) --18th place 400 Hurdles, and Riley Hanzlik (SO, Centralia) --18th place Javelin.
The women also claimed several new College records and All-Conference and All- Region recognition during the Indoor and Outdoor seasons.
During the Indoor season: Kyelah Hodges tied school record in the 400 meter at 56:67. The 4 x 400 relay set a new school indoor record at 3:36.07. Hodges also was Conference Champion and 1st team All-Conference in the 400 Meter. Elicia Gallegos was All-Conference Honorable Mention in the 400 Meter. Gallegos, Hodges, Nutt, and Segrest were All-Conference Second Team in the 4 x 400 Relay. Hodges was also All-Region Honorable Mention in the 400 meter.
In the Outdoor season: The 4 x 400 Relay was Region Champions and Conference Champions with Gallegos, Hodges, Nutt, and Segrest all receiving All-Region and All-Conference 1st Team honors. Elicia Gallegos received All-Region and All-Conference in the 400 meters. Gallegos, Hodges, Nutt, and Robinson received All-Conference 2nd Team in the 4 x 100 Relay. Chelsea Gabriel received All-Conference 2nd Team in the 400 Hurdles.
