Highland Football Takes First Win of Season
After a short travel to Atchison, the Highland Community College football team took on the Raven Junior Varsity of Benedictine College on Wilcox Field and came away with a 42-7 victory to give first year head coach Aaron Arnold his first win.
With two touchdowns contributed by the Scottie defense, the offense was able to use its fast-paced spread attack to move effectively on its early possessions and established a 28-0 halftime lead that the Ravens were unable to withstand. In the first half, the Scottie defense forced a Raven fumble deep in Raven territory that was picked up for a score. Early in the third quarter, Scottie defensive back DeAndre Bozeman (West Palm Beach, FL) had a 39 yard pick six.
The Scottie offense was led by sophomore quarterback Kyle Todd (Elizabethtown, KY) who threw for 220 yards on 22 of 27 passes, one for a touchdown to Bob Pugh (Foley, AL). Todd also ran for 34 yard touchdown. Running back Isaiah Ming (Kansas City) ran for 7 yard score, and running mate Cedrix Reed (Foley, AL) added a 21 yarder to round out the Scottie scoring.
The Scotties return to Highland for their home opener when they take on a strong Iowa Western team that is ranked #2 in t he nation in the HCC Athletic Hall of Fame game at 1:00 on Kessinger Field on Saturday, September 13. The 1984 Scottie football team will also be recognized as the team with the most wins at that time in addition to Hall of Fame inductee Paul Stanley Simmons.
