Fall 2023 Esports Season Ends

The fall esports season ended successfully for the HCC esports team.
“We’ve competed every weekday since the end of August, and the esports student athletes are due for a well-deserved break,” Coach Matt Ludwick said.
Esports competed, as a team, in over 450 gaming competitions throughout the fall semester.
The Highland Overwatch team placed second in the regional playoffs. They earned the 15-28 final rank spot out of the 140 that competed in the separate regions. Carter Heiman (Hiawatha), Dustin Spiker (St. Joseph), Damien Ochoa (Webb City, Missouri), Alexander Gooch (Joplin), Chase Beebe (Appleton City, Missouri) and Austin Singleton (Topeka) were all in sync throughout the semester to earn such an achievement. Highland Overwatch also placed third in the Wildcat League that competes against other Kansas community colleges. While competing during the semester, only the top four teams are allowed to compete in person at K-State.
Highland Rocket League teams placed first and second at the Wildcat League. Beebe, Charles Shaw (East St. Louis, Illinois) and Heiman represented Rocket League team one. Jasper Bradley (St. Joseph), Reece Florence (Highland) and Gooch represented team two.
Highland’s Valorant team earned their first place amongst the Wildcat League teams. Hector Loera (Bel Aire, Kansas), Ramiro Perez (Wichita), Shawn Brady (Wichita), Ochoa and Michael “Drew” McGuire (Goddard) represented the winning team.
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate team took home the fourth-place spot from Wildcat League. Dennis Hardin (Smithville, Missouri), Cathlyn (Julian) Bowen (Oskaloosa), Ryan Soph (Atchison) and Florence competed representing the Highland Smash team.
Call of Duty teams one and two brought home the third and fourth place medals respectively from the Wildcat League. Heiman, Chris McGee (Birmingham, Alabama), Dagen Beauchamp (Wichita) and Aaron Quillen (Ottawa) were on team one. Dorrion Northern (Kansas City, Missouri), Bradlee Anderson (Atchison), Florence and Marcus Cleophat (Ruskin, Florida) represented team two.
Northern earned the second-place spot in NBA2k at the Wildcat League.
In Mortal Kombat, Northern placed second, McGee earned third place, and Cleophat earned fourth at the Wildcat League games.
Lastly, Fortnite solos and duos competed. Caleb Hunter (McLoud, Oklahoma) earned the second-place spot for solos and Bradley earned the fourth-place spot. Duos Heiman and McGuire earned the top spot. Quillen and Hunter took second.
