KBOR Leaders Visit Highland
Zoe Newton, chair of the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR), and Dr. Blake Flanders, KBOR President and CEO, visited with the administration of Highland Community College as part of a yearly tour of the state’s nineteen community colleges. KBOR governs the six universities in Kansas; it coordinates the nineteen community colleges. Newton and Flanders visited with Highland President David Reist, Vice President for Academic Affairs Peggy Forsberg, Vice President for Student Services Dr. Cheryl Rasmussen, and Dr. Craig Mosher, Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
Newton, who was born in Jamaica and now lives in Sedan, is a practicing attorney and will have another year as the KBOR chair. Prior to becoming KBOR president, Flanders served as vice president for workforce development for KBOR, and was instrumental in the development of the Kansas Postsecondary Technical Education Authority. A native of Edson, he is a community college graduate before earning his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate at Kansas State University.
The group visited about current higher education topics and issues including the value of technical education graduates to the economy of Kansas, partnerships between the state’s community colleges and universities, and the growing opportunities for concurrent enrollment of high school students who can take college classes while still in high school.
