Members of the Highland Community College women’s track team traveled to Charlston, IL for the NJCAA Indoor Championships and exceeded expectations for their performances. Coach Tom Bond noted, “All the women placed higher than their seeds going in to the National meet. They went to the meet to compete and did an outstanding job representing themselves and the College. Division I track and field is a highly competitive sport, so just to get to the national meet is an accomplishment. Then exceeding what was expected of them is icing on that cake. The team also finished in the top 25 in the nation with a 24th place finish.”
Holly Wilmarth (Maryville, MO) exceeded her seed in the women’s pentathlon with a 11th place finish and a new personal best score of 2685. She also placed 10th in the triple jump the next day with a jump of 36’ 01, and 10th in the 55 hurdles to cap off a great two days of competition
Mandy Wilson (Rossville), who ran the 600 meter for only the second time this season, ran a personal best time of 1:37.70 in the preliminaries to get to the finals. In the finals she bettered her time from the previous day at 1:37.34 to capture a place on the medal stand at 7th place. She also earned Region Champion to get to the national meet.
Jazmine Miller (Richmond, VA) earned a spot in the 55 hurdle finals, then ran the race of her career, earning a spot on the medal stand at 6th place with a time of 8.51.
The distance medley relay finished 13th in a highly competitive event. Running for Highland were Crystal Hoard (Randolph, MO), Jazmine Miller, Hannah Olsen (St. Joseph, MO), and Kelsey Warren (Berryton).
The National Meet concludes the indoor season for the women and they move right into the outdoor season with their first meet at Park University on March 19.
