Agribusiness (Associate in Arts)

Agribusiness is for students who want to work in some aspect of agricultural sales and service.  Farm supplies sales could include livestock and poultry feed products, chemicals, fertilizer, seed, insecticide, and equipment.  A successful background in sales and service could also lead to management positions at agricultural products plants, corporate divisions, or retail operations.

 

Agriculture Economics (Associate in Arts)

Agriculture Economics is a transfer program for students interested in a career in agriculture or agri-business and could include specialization in production, marketing, or management. Agricultural economists study how farm resources such as land, raw materials, machinery, and labor are used to provide goods and services. Their research helps determine the costs and benefits of making, distributing, and using resources in a particular way. Other research might focus on topics such as energy costs, farm prices, or commodity imports.

 

Agriculture Education (Associate in Arts)

Agriculture Education is a transfer program for students wanting a career teaching the basic principles of agriculture. This curriculum is suggested for those intending to complete an associate in arts degree at HCC and then transfer to another institution for a bachelor’s degree. Agriculture educators offer classes that cover the information and skills needed in a variety of agriculture pursuits. Other career opportunities would include positions in county extension programs, federal or state agriculture administration, or agriculture finance.

 

Agronomy (Associate in Arts)

Agronomy is a transfer program for students interested in a career working with field crops.  This curriculum is suggested for those intending to complete an associate in arts degree at HCC and then transfer to another institution for a bachelor’s degree.  Agronomists strive to improve the quality and yield of crops by developing new growth methods or controlling diseases, pests, and weeds. They also may specialize in a crop or crop problem and will often present lectures, do technical writing, and conduct informational meetings.

 

Animal Science (Associate in Arts)

Animal Science is a transfer program for students interested in a career in the livestock industry, which could include specialization in management, breeding, selection, nutrition, meat science, biotechnology, or veterinary medicine. This curriculum is suggested for those intending to complete an associate in arts degree at HCC and then transfer to another institution for a bachelor’s degree. Animal scientists generally conduct research on the breeding, feeding, and diseases of farm animals.

 

Precision Agriculture (Associate in Applied Science)

Precision Agriculture is the practice of using remote sensing, soil sampling and information management tools to inprove production. Precision agriculture is about whole farm management with the goal of optimizing returns on inputs while preserving resources. It relies on new technologies like satellite imagery, information technology, and geospatial tools. It is also aided by farmers' ability to locate their precise position in a field using satellite positioning system like the GPS or GIS.
