The HCC Vocal and Multimedia Departments partnered to bring "The Lightning Thief”, the Percy Jackson musical, to audiences in Highland March 21, 22, and 23.

The production is based on the popular young adult book series by author Rick Riordan. In this production, Percy discovers he is the son of Poseidon and must go on an epic quest with his two best friends, Annabeth and Grover, to prevent a war between the Greek gods.

The cast featured Jaden Speer of Horton in the starring role of Percy. Supporting roles of Annabeth and Grover were performed by Sapphyre Miller and Ashton Roberds, both of Hiawatha. Other featured players in the cast included Megan Swanson (Mayetta), Olivia Todd (Baldwin City), Kodi Miller (Sabetha), Zachary Catron (St. Joseph), Indigo Ward (Oskaloosa) and Wyatt Hardin (Smithville).

Area schools brought approximately 450 students to the Highland Community College campus to enjoy the production as a field trip, and evening performances drew an additional 250 community members.

The HCC Vocal Music Department will return to the Culbertson Auditorium stage for its annual spring concert, "Decades of Dance", April 18 and 20 at 7:30 p.m.
