You will create this for yourself (and your parents if you are a dependent student). The FSA ID allows you to sign the FAFSA electronically.

Please be as accurate as possible by using the tax forms and W2s while completing the FAFSA. Complete your FAFSA using our school code 001921 and sign it using your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID), from Step 2.

What years do the FASFA cover? The 2025-2026 FASFA covers Fall 2025/Spring 2026 and, depending on eligibility, Summer 2026. The 2025-2026 FAFSA is based on 2023 Tax Information. 

What if you don't have a Social Security Number? The FSA ID is required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online as a student applicant or as a contributor (parent/stepparent or spouse of a student applicant.). While in the past, a Social Security Number (SSN) was required to obtain an FSA ID, students’ spouses, parents, and stepparents who do not have an SSN can obtain an FSA ID beginning in late December, 2023. Once FAFSA information has been received by the HCC Financial Aid Office, communication regarding additional financial aid paperwork will be communicated. Requested documents may include tax information or other verification documents. To ensure timely processing of your financial aid, please kindly submit all requested documents and forms together.
