Tuberculosis Screening Requirement

Students who are online-only are not required to submit a Tuberculosis screening.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection that attacks the lungs and sometimes other parts of the body. An individual with active tuberculosis can spread the disease by coughing, sneezing, speaking, laughing and singing; distributing the bacteria in the air to be inhaled by individuals in close proximity.

The State of Kansas requires all Highland Community College students that will be enrolled and entering classrooms to complete a tuberculin screening questionnaire.

  • Forms MUST be completed before classes begin. All students have “Tuberculosis stops” on their HCC accounts. Stops are not removed from the student’s account until TB documentation is submitted.
  • Students will NOT be allowed to enter classrooms if the Tuberculosis form has not been completed and submitted.
  • If the answer is "YES" to any of the TB form questions, a TB test is required by a health care provider.

This assessment may be obtained at any Health Department, physician/health clinic in your area, or the local clinic:
Amberwell Highland Clinic, 415 West Main Street, Highland, KS 660635 | 785-442-3213.

IF a TB test is required, results MUST be submitted to the HCC Admissions office before classes begin. The student cannot attend class until TB documentation is provided. TB tests can take up to 3 days to complete. An initial appointment is made and then and follow-up appointment is made where the result is read (within 72 hours of initial appointment).
