The Scottie Gold Initiative offers up to 12 credit hours tuition-free to help you claim your gold medal of achievement by completing your degree. With personalized advising, streamlined re-enrollment, and scholarships to eliminate financial barriers, we make returning to college easier than ever.

Program Eligibility
To qualify for the Scottie Gold Initiative, students must be former Highland Community College students who:
- Earned 48+ credit hours from any college or university, with at least 4 credit hours earned from HCC
- Have a 2.0 GPA or better
- Are in good academic, disciplinary, and financial standing
- Have not been enrolled for 12 consecutive months at any institution
- Must maintain continuous enrollment for up to two years
- Have not graduated with a degree from HCC

I first took classes at HCC as a high school student in 2003. In the summer of 2018,
I returned to HCC as an employee and decided to complete my associate degree online.
At 32 years old, I knew goijng back to school wouldn't be easy, especially while balancing
a full-time job, being a wife, and raising three children. But the flexibility of
online classes made it possible. I could study and complete assignments on my own
time, working toward my goals without sacrificing my other responsibilities.

I began earning college credits when taking Highland classes as a high school student in 1996. Later, I attended HCC as a full-time student. Years after earning my degree at Highland, I enrolled online at a university in 2023 and graduated in December. My degree from Highland allowed me to start taking classes directly in my major. I was thankful to not have to take general education courses at the university so I could focus on my core classes.
