Transfer Student
Continue Your Journey at highland
Whether you’re looking for a fresh start, a more affordable path to a degree, or a supportive environment to complete your studies, Highland Community College is ready to help you reach your goals. As Kansas’s first community college, HCC has a long tradition of helping transfer students transition smoothly, maximize their credits, and build a clear plan toward graduation or transfer to a four-year university.
At Highland, you’ll find flexible class schedules, small class sizes, and a community dedicated to your success. Our admissions and advising teams will guide you every step of the way — from evaluating your credits to planning your next chapter.

Transfer students are those who have previously attended another accredited college or university. Admission to HCC is open to all students who meet the following requirements:
- Completion of the Online Application for Admission
- Submission of official college transcripts from all institutions previously attended
- High school transcript may be required if you have fewer than 24 completed college credit hours
- Placement testing or submission of ACT/SAT scores (for advising and placement purposes)
Once your application and transcripts are received, our Registrar’s Office will review your coursework for transfer credit eligibility. You’ll then be connected with an academic advisor to map out your degree plan and enroll in classes.
Highland Community College accepts transfer credit from regionally accredited institutions. Courses equivalent in content and level to HCC offerings, and completed with a grade of C or higher, are generally accepted. Your transfer evaluation will determine how previous coursework applies toward your program of study at Highland.
If you plan to continue your education after HCC, our advising staff can also help you align your HCC coursework with transfer requirements at four-year universities throughout Kansas and beyond. Articulation agreements with many partner institutions ensure that your credits transfer seamlessly.
We understand that transfer students often balance multiple commitments — work, family, and academics. That’s why HCC offers flexible options including daytime, evening, and online classes to fit your schedule.
Our student support network includes academic advising, tutoring, mental health services, career counseling, and more. Whether you’re completing general education requirements or pursuing a technical degree, you’ll have access to the same high-quality instruction and personalized attention that Highland is known for.
HCC provides an exceptional education at an affordable cost. Transfer students are eligible for federal financial aid by completing the FAFSA using Highland’s school code: 001921.
Scholarships are available for academic merit, technical programs, and student involvement. Flexible payment plans make budgeting simple, and our Financial Aid Office can help you estimate costs and explore all available funding opportunities.
Becoming part of the Highland community means more than attending classes — it’s joining a network of students and alumni who value learning, leadership, and connection. You’ll find opportunities to get involved through student organizations, athletics, and campus events, or you can continue your studies from one of our regional or online locations across Kansas.
