Art Day Theme
THE GREAT ART DAY CAPER
Unless stated otherwise, all events start from 8:30 AM and are available until 1:30 PM (before our closing ceremony). This year's guest judge is Adam Crowley, a realist painter from Kansas City, MO. We will end our event at 2:00 PM in the Auditorium. Art Day awards will be given to the winners of our workshop competitions and trophies to the top competing schools.

Activity Descriptions
Activities are listed in alphabetical order.
7:30 AM
Schools can check in at the registration desk located in the lobby of the HCC Wellness Center. HCC Art Students will be on hand to assist schools in hanging their artwork in the designated areas.
Judging will begin promptly at 9:00AM.
8:30 AM - 12:30 PM
This event will give students a chance to design and make a small original works of art. Art Cards measure 3.5” by 2.5” and we urge students to make as many as they can before Art Day. Trading is encouraged!
The competition will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to anyone who would like to participate. The HCC art department will supply the necessary tools and materials.

9:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Student team competition, individual teacher competition
This event will test student knowledge in the area of art history from the Renaissance
through Modern Art period. Easy Questions will be taken from early Art History, while
Challenge Questions will be taken from
Throughout History.
One team per school, up to four students per team. Teachers compete as individuals.

Stop by this station and create a unique Art Day memento.
Limit two per trip through the line. Trips through the line...UNLIMITED!

8:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Contestants will be given a secret object bathed in darkness. What is it? Paper and materials will be provided, but students can bring materials of choice with them. Any 2D medium is allowed.
The winner will be determined by Art Day jurors. The winner will receive the secret object as a trophy!

8:30 AM - 12:30 PM
This collaborative event will take a group effort to piece together a collaborative mystery mosaic mural. Materials will be provided.
The event will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to anyone who would like
to participate.
Location: CT Foyer
8:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Expressive Self-Portraits. (Competitive walk-in activity) Choose your paper, choose
your media. Participation is based on
available space, and is a walk-in event. You're allowed 45 MINUTES maximum!
Location: Print/Drawing Studio CT-130
8:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Students will demonstrate their creativity and compositional skills with their art
history inspired chalk drawings,
reinterpreted with a modern or contemporary twist. Students may come and go throughout
the day, there is no need to have a set team.
A drawing prompt
will be given at the beginning of the event.
Location: Sidewalks. This event will be canceled in event of rain.
8:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Try your hand at compositing a police sketch of our villian. Can you build a likeness
from a fleeting glance? How observant are you as a visual being? 8:30 a.m. to 12:00
p.m. to anyone who would like to participate. The HCC art department will supply the
necessary tools and
materials.
Location: Greenspace
This competition is designed to challenge the student’s abilities to work as a team,
their understanding of scale and form
and the principles of physics. This is often a fun way to start the day. One team
of up to four students per school. We will provide clay, MINIMAL tools, materials.
The winning school will be awarded a trophy.
Location: Outdoor greenspace north of the CT building, or alternative location in event of rain

Stop by and watch your teachers battle for bragging rights and muddy clothes.
Location: Ceramic Studio CT-134
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Participants will create a mask to help hide their identity from the lurking villains.
Participants will create masks from the
supplied materials, make sure you stop and get your picture taken!

8:30 AM - 12:45 PM
(Competitive walk-in activity)
Students will throw a pot in a specified time, PRIZE awarded! One attempt every 30 minutes!

1:50 PM - 2:10 PM
The judges will give a brief presentation describing what they looked for when allocating the awards. Who will win?
