Agribusiness

The Associate in Applied Science Degree in Agribusiness program is for students who want to work in some aspect of agricultural sales and service.

Farm supplies sales could include livestock and poultry feed products, chemicals, fertilizer, seed, insecticide, and equipment. A successful background in sales and service could also lead to management positions at agricultural products plants, corporate divisions, or retail operations. 

Graduates may also pursue careers in management or leadership roles within agricultural product companies, cooperatives, corporate agricultural divisions, and retail operations. Coursework emphasizes real-world application, problem solving, and decision-making skills relevant to modern agriculture.

This program is well suited for students with agricultural backgrounds as well as those looking to enter the agricultural industry through business-focused roles.

Agribusiness Courses:

3 Credit Hours

This course will introduce the field of animal science. The course will focus on fundamental concepts of genetics, animal breeding, physiology, anatomy, nutrition, digestion, and the scope of the livestock industry.

This course will provide an introduction to the various careers in agriculture. The course will also cover career and job trends, setting academic goals, note-taking, designing a term study plan, preparing for tests, and test-taking strategies and skills.

This course provides an introduction to the field of agricultural economics as well as some of the basic tools and concepts of decision making. Concepts are illustrated in terms of selected contemporary social and economic issues, including the role of agriculture in both the national and international dimensions. Topics will include the structure of U.S. agriculture, consumer food issues, world food problems, agribusiness, and rural development.

4 Credit Hours

This course will provide a study of the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils and how these properties determine the nature of each soil and its crop productivity. The course will also cover soil management practices.

This course provides a preview of business which includes business organization and management, the financing of business operation, the marketing of the product or service, the accounting of business transactions, and career information.

The recording, classification, and analysis of economic transactions of the sole proprietorship form of business ownership are the focus of the course. The student will analyze transactions, use journals and ledgers, prepare financial statements, and summarize results at the close of the fiscal period.
