The Highland Community College men’s basketball team picked up an important home victory on Saturday afternoon over the Brown Mackie Lions by the final of 75-62.
The Scotties, 13-11 overall and 2-1 in Jayhawk Conference play, moved to 3-1 in Region VI Division-II play. In the first half, Highland never seemed to be able to get a defensive stop or punch in a score that would give them some separation from the Lions, so they entered the break leading only 34-31. In the second half, the Scotties built a 15 point lead with just over six minutes to play and held on for the win.
Freshman Dominique Davis (Washington D.C.) led the Scotties with 18 points and four assists. Sophomore Martell Collins (Milwaukee, WI) registered another double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds. Freshman Robel Teckle (Washington D.C.) had a hot hand in the first half for the Scotties and finished with 14 points.
“It was good to play a fairly consistent game for once,” said head coach Jerre Cole. “We have struggled all year at putting two halves together. We were better in terms of balanced scoring as well. Hopefully, we can keep this together for a few weeks.”
The Scotties next travel to Hesston College on Wednesday, February 5 for a 7:30 tip-off against the Larks.
