Students Participate in National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week

Highland Community College’s Adult Education students will participate in the National Adult Education and Family Literacy (NAEFL) week.
NAEFL week is next week, Sept. 19-23, and Highland students are enhancing participation with a student-developed spirit week.
“We are so excited to be a part of recognizing National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week which will raise public awareness about the need for and value of adult education and family literacy. Our students want everyone to know they are doing their best to be educated and learn skills to add to their employability. They developed the spirit week themselves,” stated Mary Johanning, Adult Education Director.
NAEFL week’s goal is to bring awareness to the good work that Adult Education is doing to fill gaps in our workforce by providing opportunities for adults to attain necessary skills. Funding is an issue for these programs, so participants urge community members to reach out to the legislators to continue funding these programs.
