Scottie Women Continue to Win

The Highland Community College women’s basketball team beat the University of St. Mary 87-61 Monday to push their record to 4-0 under new head coach B. J. Smith.

The Scotties led 47-28 at the half, with Kathryn Thomas (Flint, MI) and Jaaron Kassanvoid (Lawson, MO) leading the way with 18 and 14 points respectively. USM did close the gap to 13 in the second half before the Scotties pulled away for the final margin of 87-61. "I thought our bench, especially Dani Lockhart (Marysville) and Randi Blaser (Lawson, MO), came in and gave us quality minutes.  It was also nice to get Alison Cole (Long Island) from volleyball started," Smith stated.

The Scotties created 35 turnovers for the game and out-rebounded the Squires 33-29. "With not one returner and so many freshmen, we have to learn to sustain our intensity.  We are a work in progress, and hopefully we can learn while winning," Smith said.   The Scotties take on Hesston College on the road before returning to Allen Field House to host Southwestern on November 22.
