Scottie Volleyball Wins Two at Iowa Meet

The Highland Scottie volleyball team traveled to Iowa to compete in a triangular with host Iowa Central and guest Dakota County Technical College. The Scotties’ first game was against the Iowa Central Tritons who came into the meet with a record of 13-6.

The entire game was back and forth as both teams were focused on coming out on top. Tyrecia Lukes (Homestead, FL) had a spectacular game offensively as she put down 15 kills, which ties her career high for the season so far. Lukes also added to her blocking total with seven during the game. Leslie Polanco (Dominican Republic) took control all around the court as she recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs. Megan Rhule (Holton) had another respectable game as she recorded a double-double as well, with a career high 18 digs and 37 set assists, just five short of her career high of 42.
Josie Vitosh (Odell, NE) showed great defense with 14 digs and two service aces.  Shailey Caudle (Atchison) added 10 digs of her own. After losing the first set, the Scotties came back hard to win the next three and close out the game. The set scores ended up 19-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-19.

With this win, the Scotties moved their season record to 10-5 and looked to continue their win streak in the second game of the day.  The Scotties took on Dakota Technical College, whose record coming in to the day was 7-8. The Blue Knights proved to be no match for the Scotties as the set scores were 25-9, 25-14, 25-11.

As a team, the hitting percentage turned out to be an impressive .348 which was led by Caudle and Lukes with seven each and Marianna Falls (Dislodge, MO) following with six.  Rhule and Polanco each had four kills with no errors. Lauren Hipfl (Frontenac) and Jessica Luscomb (Boonville, MO) added in four and a kill each off the bench.
Rhule added in 22 set assists while the team also had five service aces throughout the game. Defensively, Vitosh and Caudle led the dig column with five each and the team recorded five blocks to help win the match.

The Scotties are now 11-5 on the year and look forward to competing against Labette Community College in another conference showdown on Monday, September 26th at 5:30 pm in Parsons.
