Scottie Softball Sweeps First Home Action

After working for five straight days clearing snow and ice from Scottie Park, the Scottie softball squad took the field last week in their first home action of 2013 and made all their hard work pay off. The Scotties finished the week a perfect 6-0, outscoring their opponents 73-2. On Wednesday, Highland swept North Central Missouri College by scores of 11-0 and 8-1.  Starting pitchers Paige Crawford (Salina), and Jasmine Stewart (Olathe) combined to allow only one run on only four NCMC hits. Holly Wilmarth (Maryville, MO) led the Scottie offense, going 5-7 on the day. Kaley Pyles (Dekalb, MO) added two home runs and five RBI’s to the dominant showing.

Thursday’s double header brought Maple Woods to Scottie Park. Highland would once again flex their muscles on both sides of the ball and take both games 10-0 and 11-0. In game one, Crawford threw the first no hitter for the 2013 Scottie pitching staff. Crawford struck out seven Maple Woods batters and walked only two for her second win of the season. Natalie Abrahams (South Africa) picked up the game two victory in the circle for the Scotties. Abrahams allowed only two hits, once again holding the Monarch offense scoreless. Kellyn Holt (Mulvane) and Pyles were both 4-5 on the day, and combined for 10 RBI. Katie Yoder (Shawnee), Taylor Hatfield (Mulvane), and Pyles each homered as the Scotties pounded out 23 hits.
