Joseph (known as JD) Koons has been hired as the new Student Services Representative at the Highland Community College Wamego Center. Koons started his new duties at the Wamego Center on December 5.
Koons comes to the College from the Flint Hills Job Corps Center/Management and Training Corporation located near the Manhattan Airport, where he was the Counseling Manager. As the Counseling Manager, he was responsible for student advising, student retention, and student development at the Job Corps Center. His new position will mirror those duties as he works with Wamego Center students to assist in their academic success. Prior to the Job Corps, Koons was a Pastoral Counseling Intern at Manhattan Christian College.
A native of Arizona, Koons graduated from Deer Valley High School in Glendale, AZ, before matriculating to Manhattan Christian College for his bachelor’s degree. He then completed a master’s degree in pastoral counseling from Columbia International University in South Carolina.
Dr. Cheryl Rasmussen, Vice President for Student Services at the College, noted, “We are pleased to get someone with JD’s background in the role of our Student Services Representative. His experience working with students is well documented and he will proved to be a valuable asset to our Student Services team.”
