The 11th ranked women’s basketball team at Highland Community college went 2-0 as they hosted the Scottie Classic, defeating North Central Missouri College 70-51 and Central Methodist University 77-47.
The Scotties trailed in the first game to North Central 12-2 and 15-5 early but rallied to take a 34-31 lead in to the half. “This was the first time we had been behind any substantial amount of time this season, and I thought we did a good job of keeping our composure and making some adjustments during the game,” said head coach BJ Smith. The Scotties started the second half with a 12-2 run and led by as many as 26 before winning by a final of 70-51.
The Scotties were led in scoring by Carina Jackson (Sao Paulo, Brazil) with 22 and Rylie Bowser (Holton) and Janelle Saling (Lathrop, MO) both had 11.
Against CMU, the Scotties jumped out to an early 20-4 lead and never looked back as they stretched it to 47-20 at the half. Janelle Saling had 17 to lead the Scotties, followed by Jackson with 15 and Jaaron Kassanavoid (Lawson, MO) with 10.
