The Highland Community College women’s basketball team beat conference foe Cowley College Saturday afternoon by the score of 77-55 to go 4-0, but it wasn’t an easy row to hoe. The Scotties got into an early 0-7 hole and 2-9 early in the game. The Scotties then trailed 27-33 at the half after committing nine turnovers. “I am not sure we were intense enough early about being aggressive on both ends of the court,” said head coach BJ Smith.
The Scotties used a 10-0 run to start the second half on the shoulders of sophomore Ashley Torres, as she scored seven straight points, to go up by four and never looked back. Highland outscored Cowley 49-22 in the second half on the way to a fourth straight win, 77-55.
“This was a good win for us, but we have so many things we need to work on. It will be important for us to be better on both ends of the floor to continue being successful,” said Smith.
