Highland Community College head volleyball coach Jon Bingesser and assistant Alex Petock have announced the signing of nine student athletes who will be attending Highland and playing for the Scotties in the fall. Beginning his second year as the Scotties head coach, Bingesser is looking this first complete recruiting class to fill holes left by graduation and carry the Scotties to volleyball dominance in the Jayhawk East.
Koie Orozco joins the Scotties from volleyball powerhouse Savannah, MO. As a 5’9 lefty, Orozco started on the right side for the Savages aiding in a 26-7-2 record and a top eight finish in the Missouri Class 3 state volleyball tournament. She plays club for Pride-KC. Orozco will also be a member of the Highland Athletic Training program.
Leslie Polanco will join the Scotties from the Dominican Republic. Polanco has been a six rotation outside hitter on the U20 Dominican National team for the last three seasons and was voted team MVP her final season. Polanco also plays competitive beach doubles.
Mindy Hendren comes to Highland from Nevada, MO. As one of two seniors on her team, Hendren led the Tigers to a 22-11 record and was voted All-Around Team Leader by her teammates for her leadership skills on and off the court. Hendren was a West-Central Conference honorable mention and received All State academic honors both her junior and senior year.
Emily Nelson is coming from Bonner Springs. As libero for the Braves, Nelson led her team in digs, received All Kaw Valley Conference honors, and was voted Defensive Player of the Year. At BSHS, she was a three sport athlete, lettering in volleyball, basketball, and softball. Nelson also played club for the KC-Twisters 18-1 team.
Zealia Kleitz, a 5’10” middle from Osawatomie, was a standout on the volleyball court, leading her team in kills and blocks. She lettered three years and received All Conference honors for the Pioneer League. Kleitz is also a member of Club Kamo out of Kansas City.
Megan Rhule will join the Scotties from nearby Holton. She also lettered three years, and as the starting setter for the Wildcats, dished out 1599 assists, forced 173 aces, and set at a 99.1% efficiency rate. Rhule was All County 2 years, posted Big 7 League honors two years, and received KVA All Academic honors for two years. She was also selected to the All State Class 4A second team, and participated in the NEK All Star volleyball match held at the College. Rhule played club for the Topeka Heat.
Lauren Hipfl is from Frontenac. While at Frontenac, Hipfl was the standout female athlete for the Raiders, lettering in three sports multiple years, taking each one of her teams to the state tournament. As a 5’10 outside, Hipfl has been on the varsity volleyball team for four years, aiding in two state tournament berths, including a fourth place finish at the class 4A D2 State Tournament her freshman year. As a senior, Hipfl led her Raiders to a 28-13 record and a 4A D2 State Tournament appearance. She was All CNC first team, All Crawford County, All State Honorable Mention, and was selected to the All State Tournament Team.
Jessica Luscombe comes to Highland from Boonville, MO. At 6 feet tall, Luscombe dominated in both basketball and volleyball, leading her teams to the State Tournament in both. As a middle for the Pirates, she led her team in blocks and kills, and assisted them to a 28-13 record and a Class 3 State Tournament appearance her senior year. She received many honors, including All District, All Region, and was selected to the North Central Missouri Conference first team. Jessica was a member of the Santa Fe Vipers Club team.
Jazzmyn Poirier will come across the country from Snohomish, WA. As a two-year starter for the Panthers, 5’10” Poirier saw time at both the middle and right side position. Her junior year, she assisted the Panthers to a 15-3 record and saw a 4A State Tournament appearance. Poirier is also a member of the Seattle Juniors, one of the premier club programs in the Northwestern Region. During the 2015 club season, Poirier led her team to a regional victory, sending them to New Orleans for USA Junior Nationals.
