Members of the Highland Community College softball team decided to put extra effort into spreading the holiday cheer this year. They have teamed up with faculty member Steve Wuerz to adopt a family from St. Joseph, MO. Wuerz recently coordinated the College’s effort to provide assistance with Thanksgiving food to deserving families in Doniphan County.
“Normally we do a gift exchange among team members. This year however, the team decided to give a hand up to someone who needed a little extra help this year for Christmas,” stated Head Coach Heidi Jordan. Team members have been gathering items from the list of the family’s needs provided by Wuerz, such as linens and personal hygiene items, along with a few toys for the children. There will also be a dinner basket provided to the family for them to enjoy. “It always feels good to help someone out. It is a great experience for our girls, and a new way for them all to appreciate the joys of the holiday season.”
