Highland Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter (Alpha Zeta Gamma) officers and advisors recently attended a two day leadership training conference on the campus of Fort Hays State University. Officers Obinna Muoh Benin Republic, Africa), Katherine Wist (Hiawatha), Kayla Cook (Highland), Tayler Cooper (Manhattan), Grace Siard (Atchison), Katlyn Kirkwood (Topeka) and advisors Harry Moeller (biology instructor) and Margy Heddens (mathematics instructor) spent two full days learning how to effectively communicate during interviews, business meetings, and social interactions. Students were taught not only how to speak in the various settings but also how to properly send emails, how to write hand written letters, how to make a proper telephone calls, and even how to properly send a text message. There was also a formal etiquette dinner presented by Rachel Wagner.
The Highland chapter competed against other state chapters in a service project to raise money for the victims of the flood in Mulvane. The service project was a penny war where the chapters asked their campus compatriots to donate pocket change. The money was donated to Care and Share, a local organization that has been spear-heading the Mulvane relief efforts. The Alpha Zeta Gamma chapter members and advisors would like to thank everyone who contributed to this project.
