Highland Provides Food for Thanksgiving

When the word went out at Highland Community College for employees to develop projects they had a passion about, chemistry instructor Steve Wuerz immediately remembered the joy he had at a previous college in helping assist with food baskets during the holidays.  After a couple of initial efforts, he was able to form a committee of like-thinking employees of the College.  That group provided the organizational framework to work units throughout the campus with the goal of each work unit providing a hamper of food for Thanksgiving.  The result was 28 and a half hampers which will feed 138 people in Doniphan County who otherwise would not have had food for the holiday.  The College group utilized the Doniphan County Council on Aging, which is headed by Julie Simmons, a former College employee, to distribute some of the food.  The rest was distributed through the Doniphan County West Food Bank in Highland.
