Highland Prepares for 2012 Commencement

Plans have been finalized for the 2012 commencement exercises at the Highland Community College campus.  The 2012 commencement will be held outdoors on Thursday evening, May 10, at 7:00 pm on Kessinger Field on the HCC campus.  Over 150 graduates are scheduled to hear Travis Grossman, HCC alumnus and Director of Theatre Atchison, who will be the guest speaker.  The HCC Commencement will be broadcast live by accessing the College’s Web site at www.highlandcc.edu.  There will be a rotating slide on the Homepage that will provide viewers with instructions.  Commencement exercises at the HCC Technical Center in Atchison will be held on May 15 at 7:30 in the Atchison High School gymnasium.

Commencement exercises will begin with the traditional march across the campus of the HCC faculty and graduating students into the stadium, led by the Tullintrain West Pipe Band bagpipe troupe.  Those assembled will join in singing the HCC Alma Mater, followed by Grossman’s address.  After special music from the HCC music department, President Reist will announce special awards, including the annual Bruning Award for faculty development, and present the class of 2012.  Once the degrees have been conferred by Joyce C. Rush, chairperson of the HCC Board of Trustees, the Tullintrain Pipers will lead the graduates and faculty from the stadium.

A commencement meal starting at 5:00 pm will be available from Great Western Dining Services, served in the HCC Cafeteria with seating available on the front lawn.  Great Western will also host a reception on the lawn following the commencement exercises.  In the event of rain, the 2012 Commencement at HCC will be held in Allen Field House.
