Ryan Held, head coach of the Highland Community College football team, recently received notice of the selection of his players to first team, second team, and honorable mention Kansas Jayhawk Community College All-Conference as a cap to his second season with the Scotties, a year that finished 6-4 and a first-ever appearance in the Jayhawk Playoffs. Seven members of the Scottie defense were recognized, along with five members of the offense.
The Scottie selections were led by the first-team selection of quarterback Brandon Bergeron (FR, Lafayette, LA). Other members of the offense were second team selections tight end Brennan Boland (SO, Overland Park) and tackle Jeff Travillion (SO, Pflugerville, TX), and honorable mention selections sophomore Durwin Jones, a wide receiver from Houston, TX, and guard Avery Richard, a sophomore from Shawnee Mission.
Two members of the Scottie defense earned second team selection: sophomore defensive end Joe Keels (Kenosha, WI) and Mike Brown, a sophomore safety from Oakland Park, FL. Those receiving an honorable mention nod were defensive tackles Marcus Smith (SO, Wadesboro, NC) and Glenn Antoine (SO, Round Rock, TX); linebackers Brandon Lockwood, a sophomore from Largo, FL, and sophomore Taylor Shaffer of Wamego; and sophomore safety Patrick Martin of Greenville, SC.
