Highland Offering Summer Camps

The Walters Wellness Center and athletic coaches at Highland Community College are offering three Summer Camps for area youth.  Women’s basketball Coach of the Year BJ Smith, new football coach Ryan Held, and volleyball coach Diana Gaddis and their staffs will be offering Camps in June, July, and August.  Information about these Camps can be obtained from Robyn Korthanke at the Walters Wellness Center, rkorthanke@highlandcc.edu or 785.442.6145.  You can also register for these Camps online by going to the College Web site at www.highlandcc.edu, click on Athletics and then Camps.

The Girls Basketball Team Camp will be held June 18-20, 2012 for area girls’ teams entering grades seven through twelve.  Check-in is from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm and the cost is $225 per team, with a guarantee of seven games during the Camp.  Camp attire is basketball shoes, shorts, and t-shirts.  Those campers who want to stay overnight must provide their own linens and toiletries.

The Little Scottie Pup Football Camp on July 16 and 17, 2012 will be divided into two parts – a morning Camp for those entering grades two to five and an afternoon Camp for grades six through eight.  The morning Camp begins with an 8:00 registration on July 16 for the Camp which will run from 9:00 to noon each day.  Afternoon campers will register at 12:30 pm and have Camp from 1:30 to 4:30 each day.  Attire for both sessions is tennis shoes, shorts, and t-shirts, and the cost is $35.

Then later in July, the football staff will conduct a High School Combine that will consist of physical testing, drills, and a recruiting education piece.  The Combine will be conducted on July 21, 2012 from 9:00 am to noon, with an 8:30 am registration time, at a cost of $25.

Finally, the volleyball Camp will be August 1 with registration at 8:30 am.  The Camp will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at a cost of $40 for those entering grades seven through twelve.  Campers will need to bring a sack lunch, and the Camp consists of fundamentals, defense, and offensive systems.  The registration deadline to get a Camp t-shirt is July 24, 2012.
