Jane Zaccardi, Director of Nursing at the Highland Community College Technical Center, received Certificates of Excellence from the Kansas State Board of Nursing in recognition of the pass rate on the national exam by Highland students in both the Practical Nursing and the Registered Nursing programs. Both programs achieved a pass rate that was above the national average for first time NCLEX takers.
Having recently completed a review for accreditation of the programs, this recognition further documents the excellence of the Highland Nursing program that has had strong leadership for many years under Janean Bowen, then Cynthia Jacobson, and now Jane Zaccardi. The Atchison community continues to support the program that is making strides on having a complete SimMan lab that was named in honor of Bowen’s hard work in the program. The SimMan lab provides students with the opportunity to work on simulated patients that are controlled by the instructors with a computer. The simulated manikins then provide the student nurses with “real” medical issues to address. The Nursing program instructors point to the SimMan lab as one reason the students are so well on the NCLEX exam.
