Cynthia Jacobson, Director of Nursing at Highland Community College, and Dr. Lynne Connelly, Director of the Benedictine College Nursing Program, will be joining fellow RN Leslie A. Blakley, the host for a radio talk show sponsored by the Atchison Hospital called “The Best Care on the Air”. Jacobson will be on Blakley’s show on KAIR Radio - Hot Country 93.7 on Sunday, May 5, at 8:30 am and then repeated on Wednesday, May 8, at 12:30 p, to promote nursing education and the nursing profession during Nurses Week, May 6-12. Nurses Week is the same dates every year and is designed to close on Florence Nightingales’ birthday.
The theme for this year’s Nurses Week is “Delivering Quality and Innovative Patient Care”. Blakley has been innovative with the nursing profession by delivering helpful and informative topics through her radio show on KAIR. The Highland nursing program, which does collaborative activities with the Benedictine program, is located at the HCC Technical Center in Atchison and has a waiting list of students seeking admission.
Jacobson will discuss the early nursing theorists and their contribution to patient care. Nursing goes so far beyond Florence Nightingale, although her accomplishments cannot be minimized. Nursing is now at the forefront of affecting change in the quality of healthcare today, with a history of continuous patient care improvement. The three RN’s will discuss the current educational requirements for nurses, regulation and licensing, and continuing education. Jacobson can be reached at cjacobson@highlandcc.edu.
