Highland Football Beats Hutch

In a matchup of the two HCC’s in Kansas community colleges, Highland Community College beat Hutchinson Community College 31-12 as the Scotties recovered from a close loss on the road at Central Iowa the previous week.  Highland dominated the game from the opening kickoff as quarterback Kahlil Render (Homestead, FL) had another complete game to lead the Scotties to the victory.  Coming into the game, Render had 1,107 yards passing and 12 touchdowns on the season and did not play in the Scotties’ first two games.  Render also leads the Scotties in rushing with 269 yards gained on 49 carries and four scores.  This was the first win over Hutch for the current coaching staff under head coach Aaron Arnold, who was not able to be on the sidelines last week as he was with his wife, Kristin, for the birth of their first child, a son, August Michael.

The Scotties now prepare for their final home game of the season as they host the Red Ravens of Coffeyville on Saturday, October 24, for a 1:00 kickoff on Kessinger Field.  This game will be Sophomore Recognition Day for the Scotties and another big game in the Jayhawk Conference as Coffeyville is one of the league leaders and Highland has a chance in its next three games to determine who will be the Conference champion when they travel to Butler and then Dodge City to close out the 2015 schedule.
