Highland Community College Hosts Northeast Kansas FFA Super Day 2019published April 5, 2019
April 3 drew over 400 students from all over northeast Kansas to Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas to compete in the northeast Kansas FFA District Super Day. Local high schools participating included Doniphan West, Riverside, Hiawatha, Nemaha Central, Sabetha, and Atchison County Community High School.
Students compete in Career Development Events or CDE’s in areas related to agriculture, production, food science, veterinary science, horticulture and agribusiness. Student who place high may move on to the state level.
Highland Agriculture students volunteered during the event. “FFA Super Day is a really hands-on way for students to try lots of different areas of agriculture and see what area is a good fit,” said HCC agriculture student and former FFA member Jaime Albers of Bendena, Kansas.
Students were also able to get a first-hand look at the Precision Ag program that Highland Community College offers in its Western Technical Center in Baileyville and on the Highland Campus.
“These students are the future of agriculture in the Midwest. We are excited to be able to help them grow and continue on that path. Highland Community College’s Ag programs will give the skills and know how to embrace current and emerging technologies so they can become a success in any area of Ag,” noted Dr. George Kegode Instructor of Precision Agriculture at Highland.
