“We are thrilled we got the opportunity to represent Highland Community College and the AZG chapter,” said Mary Heddens, AZG advisor. Heddens accompanied fellow AZG advisor Harry Moeller and two AZG chapter members to help make up the 41 members and advisors in attendance from the Kansas-Nebraska region.

Cassidy Goering, member, and officer ran in the 5k event then spent the remainder of her day volunteering. Abbygail Yunghans, member and officer, spent her day volunteering. Moeller ran in the half marathon while Heddens walked in the 5k event then cheered on the runners from the Kansas-Nebraska region.

The marathon is the largest single-day fundraising event for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This year the event raised a record-breaking $12.75 million and brought in over 26,000 runners and 40,000 volunteers.

PTK is the honor society for students attending community and two-year colleges. Membership is based on high-grade point averages and other criteria, with members focusing on scholastic achievement and service to community and campus. These student scholars are part of a statewide student body of more than 123,000 students enrolled at the 19 Kansas community colleges.
