Following the direction of the United States Congress, which mandated that all institutions that receive federal funding shall celebrate Constitution Day with their community, Highland Community College had a variety of information available to mark the celebration on September 16.
On September 17, 1787, thirty-nine men signed the United State Constitution which set forth the fundamental principles of a government. To commemorate that signing, the College had information available in the Library and students took advantage of activities designed to enhance their awareness of the Constitution.
Taking to heart the charge to educate the public about the Constitution, HCC Librarian Penny Donaldson put up a display in the Library of materials on the Constitution. In addition, she had handouts and word puzzles concerning the Constitution. Using the puzzle format is an effective means for remembering information.
