Highland Community College is proud to announce that its Viticulture and Enology (V&E) program has secured a U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant to be utilized in the 2015 calendar year. Highland V&E program director Scott Kohl applied for the grant through the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) and will partner with KDA to implement the grant objectives. Funding in the amount of $50,300 will go to the V&E program to continue extension activities across the state, including workshops, site visits, and industry consultation for Kansas vineyard and winery owners. A portion of the funding will also support an internship program designed to connect students interested in the industry with Kansas vineyards and wineries. There will also be a professional wine-judging training session for interested winemakers.
For more information about the grant or Highland’s V&E program, contact Kohl at 785-456-6006 or skohl@highlandcc.edu.
