Highland Men Run at Emporia Invitational

The Highland Community College men’s cross country team finished in sixteenth place at the Emporia State University Invitational Meet last Friday.

The Scotties finished with 353 team points. Fort Hays State University won the meet with 32 team points. George Gathuru of Cloud County Community College took the individual honors with the time of 24:36.4.

Highland was paced by freshman Seth Parres (O’Fallon, MO) with a 46th place finish in 27:30.8. Sophomore Brett Simshauser (Cuba, MO) ran well, finishing in 70th place with a time of 28:06.1. Sophomore Derek Wright (McLouth) was the third scorer for the Scotties with an 88th place finish in 28:31.7. Fellow sophomore Tim Borger (Eudora) finished the race with a time of 28:47.4, good for 96th place. Freshman Jonathan Oliva (Bonner Springs) scored for the first time this season with a 123rd place finish in 29:49.0

The Scotties next travel to Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday, October 6.  The meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
