HCCTC Student Wins SkillsUSA Gold Medal

Dustin Mortsolf, a Highland Community College Technical Center (HCCTC) student from Lansing, was the National Gold Medalist in the Diesel Equipment Technology competition held during the recent National SkillsUSA Conference.  SkillsUSA is a national technical education organization that includes student competitions in the various technical education fields during its national conference.

During the National Conference, HCCTC diesel equipment technology instructor Fred Moranz and collision repair technology instructor Randy Culbertson were recognized with 100% Section Awards for supporting the goals and purposes of Career Technical Education through SkillsUSA.

The quality of technical education in Kansas was noted by Becky Warren, SkillsUSA Kansas State Director, when observing that Kansas had 107 students participating in the competitions against over 6,000 fellow students and 47 of those students – almost half – placed in the top 10 in those national competitions.  Kansas was also recognized as having the greatest increase in membership for 2013-14.
