HCC Celebrates Constitution Day
Following the direction of the United States Congress, which mandated that all institutions that receive federal funding shall celebrate Constitution Day with their community, Highland Community College had a variety of activities to mark the celebration on September 17.
On September 17, 1787, thirty-nine men signed the United State Constitution which set forth the fundamental principles of a government. To commemorate that signing, the College had information available in the Library and students took advantage of activities designed to enhance their awareness of the Constitution.
Taking to heart the charge to educate the public about the Constitution, HCC Librarian Penny Donaldson put up a display in the Library of materials on the Constitution. In addition, she had handouts and word puzzles concerning the Constitution for those going through the cafeteria line. Using the puzzle format is an effective means for remembering information.
Donaldson also sent sources of material for all students, staff, and faculty for use in class and to test their knowledge of what the Constitution contains. The quiz was also available to others in the Library.
