Bond Earns Coach of the Year Award

Highland Community College Head Track & Field Coach Tom Bond won the Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year award at the Region VI Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Kansas State University.  The award is made by his fellow track and field coaches in the NCJAA region.

This award is coming off a great women's Indoor Track & Field season for the Scotties, with Nationals still to come. This season, the Highland women's indoor track team climbed up the polls to the No. 11 spot in the nation, its highest ranking in the last 20 seasons.

This season, the Scottie women's track team produced four 1st Team All-Conference performers, six 2nd Team All-Conference, and six Honorable Mention All-Conference student athletes, as well as eight All-Region performers.

Bond, is in his 36th year coaching track & field/cross country and in his 10th season at Highland Community College as the head coach. Coach Bond has won this award three times while at HCC, twice in track and once in cross country. He has coached 106 All-Americans, 165 All-Conference performers, and 147 National Qualifiers.

"Receiving this award is very humbling. I am very grateful for the efforts of the student athletes and the work, time, and efforts of my assistant coaches. I am also very appreciative of the support I have had from Athletic Director Tyler Nordman and the entire athletic department. Highland has been a great college to work for and to represent. I have been very blessed to be able to work with the students and have a place to do it,"   commented Bond after receiving the award.

Coach Bond will lead 16 national qualifiers to the NJCAA National Indoor Meet on March 1-3 in Lubbock, TX.
