Baker to Lead New Highland Western Center

Highland Community College has announced that Cara Baker has been hired as the Highland Western Center Coordinator.  She will be responsible for helping to create this new facility which will deliver technical education opportunities on the western side of the Highland service area.  She will be the Coordinator of the Center, which will evolve from the B&B High School facility which has been acquired by the College.  That acquisition was facilitated by the receipt of a federal Title III Grant which will allow the College to develop technical coursework that results in associate degrees and certificates that allow students to go to work right away or transfer to a bachelor’s degree institution.  The Grant will also allow the College to develop a Precision Agriculture program, the only one in the state of Kansas.

Baker is very familiar with the western side of the Highland service area as she is a graduate of Marysville High School and Kansas State University, holding a master’s degree in Educational Computing.  She has had additional training from the Center for Credentialing and Education.  Baker comes to the College from Nemaha Valley High School where she is the Career and Technical Education Coordinator.  She also teaches Business and Computer courses and will continue in her current role, working at Nemaha Valley for two days a week through the middle of March when she will assume the duties of her new position on a full-time basis.
